Marginal Areas Rehabilitation in Saskatchewan (MARS)
ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2025
SaskSoil’s Marginal Areas Rehabilitation in Saskatchewan (MARS) program encourages the conversion of marginal cropland into
perennial forage while increasing your profits while farming fewer acres.
Forages improve profitability, increase pollinator habitat and biodiversity, reduce herbicide-resistant weeds,
act as buffer zones to meet product label guidelines and manage clubroot issues.
This program is designed to seed down acres that are unprofitable to grow crops while farming less land more efficiently. MARS is an opportunity to:
Apply an alternative management strategy to tackle nuisance areas
Improve Soil Health
Enhance the biodiversity in your field, potentially leading to better yields and higher profitability
Receive $100/acre on eligible land
Maintain land as forage for 10 years. Should you wish to break the land within 10 years, you can repay a portion of the total funds provided in proportion to the number of years remaining in the term of the agreement.
Eligible land should be located within the colored area.
Land not located within the boundaries of the target map shown and must have
7 basins or 20 acres of wetlands on the quarter section or receive approval.
