Assessment and Evaluation of Nutrient Management
The Water Management Project will be conducted in unison with the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency. The Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association has partnered with the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and Glacier FarmMedia Discover Farm to develop a research project to investigate the efficacy of regenerative agriculture practices and fertility management of wetland soils and solid impacted by drainage practices to address the impacts of drainage.
Our goal is to illustrate the process of how to properly design and implement a water management plan that strikes a balance between maximizing the economic productivity of the land and preserving important ecological services.
Pending additional funding, a subsequent multi-year research project will be initiated on the drained land to evaluate the actions of various agronomic management practices such as tillage, variable-rate fertility, and novel cropping practices to reduce the export of nutrients in run-off water.
